Classic whale watching in Reykjavík

The tour begins at the Elding ticket counter in the Old Port of Ægisgerður in downtown Reykjavík. Show your voucher/QR code and receive the ticket.

A few meters further is the Elding Visitor Center, which is located on board a converted fishing ship. There is a café and a whale museum as well as a souvenir shop.

On board the whale watching boat there are various decks, a cozy salon with a cafeteria and toilets. On cold days you can rent blankets and warm overalls.

You can be outside on one of the decks or in the warm salon with large picture windows.
The guides announce each sighting over the public address system and the direction in which the sighting occurred via the time system.
12 o'clock is directly in front of the ship, 3 o'clock is to the right of the ship, 6 o'clock is behind the ship and 9 o'clock is to the left of the ship. 11 o'clock is therefore diagonally to the left in front of the ship.

Peak whale watching season is April to October, when the bay is full of minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises and occasional humpback whales, orcas and fin whales can be spotted.
Various species of birds can also be observed.

In winter the tours are a completely different experience, the low sun often creates special lighting atmospheres. Please book winter whale and dolphin watching in Reykjavík between November and February.
